DACE D0001 - Community Journalism for Civic Power
Course Description
In partnership with the Institute for Community Engagement and Civic Leadership, this workshop series is designed by Journalism + Design from The New School and will be facilitated by Resolve Philly. This series of workshops explores how journalism and design practices can help participants find and share information that their communities need to thrive. The curriculum is geared for anyone who wants to learn the fundamentals of journalism as a way to make a difference in their community. You'll learn tools for elevating local stories, bringing your own stories to life, and engaging and collaborating with your neighbors to create news that serves the needs of the community. You’ll start to understand how decisions get made and how to see the larger systems at play behind the issues you care about. You’ll also be connected to local organizations and opportunities where you can apply these learnings and get involved in community-centered news.
To be eligible for the certificate, participants must attend 6 out of the 8 sessions and complete a short form at the end of the program sharing an act of journalism they engaged in during the workshop series.
By registering for this workshop series, participants acknowledge and agree to share their email address with affiliated partners and other participants for the purpose of fostering communication, collaboration, and networking within the workshop community.
