Course Description
Family Literacy Foundations (AEPP Workshop) is intended for instructors new to family literacy programming or experienced instructors who wish to refresh their skills. The workshop provides an explanation of the components of a family literacy program, including the purpose of each and how each relates to an integrated family literacy program. The workshop will focus on the importance of and strategies for integrating the four components into lesson planning. The workshop will introduce participants to key resources and planning tools that they will use throughout the course to develop an integrated lesson plan. During a series of five webinars and an independent activity, the facilitator will provide support.Course Outline

Learner Outcomes
After completing this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Describe the focus of Pennsylvania family literacy programs.
- Describe what integration means in terms of the components of a family literacy program.
- Plan how to integrate the components of family literacy.
- Interview providers and instructors of each family literacy component in order to establish a line of communication.
- Implement and reflect on developed activities.
- Identify the purpose of parent education and how it connects to integrated lesson planning.
- Analyze the components of an NCFL Parent Education and ILA Lesson, including the NELP Predictors of Later Success.
- Identify supports for adult learners when planning in parent education.
- Adapt an NCFL Parent Education and ILA Lesson using the Parent Education Activity and ILA Template.
- Identify the purpose of adult education and how it connects to integrated lesson planning.
- Describe how to identify learners' needs for adult education.
- Select adult education lesson objectives that are CCRS-aligned and connected to an NCFL Parent Education and ILA Lesson.
- Develop an activity for each adult education lesson objective.
- Integrate parent education and adult education components.
- Identify the purpose of interactive literacy activities and how they connect to integrated lesson planning.
- Describe how to identify learners' needs (parents/caregivers and children) needs for interactive literacy activities.
- Identify language supports (for parents/caregivers) to provide during interactive literacy activities.
- Create and describe an interactive literacy activity that is integrated with the adapted NCFL Parent Education Lesson.
- Identify the purpose of early childhood education and how it connects to integrated lesson planning.
- Research and describe where and how early childhood education is provided for children participating in your family literacy program.
