Course Description
CCRS Foundations – ELA Lesson Planning (AEPP Workshop) introduces new instructors, tutors, and in-house professional development specialists to using the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) - English Language Arts (ELA) to develop lesson plans. Participants will learn the organization and purpose of the standards, the key shifts in teaching when using the standards, and the benefits of using the standards to plan lessons. Participants will utilize CCRS-aligned lesson planning tools to guide them in lesson development. By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to create, teach, and reflect on a lesson plan that is aligned to the CCRS.Course Outline

Learner Outcomes
After completing this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Describe three purposes and three benefits of using CCR Standards for lesson planning.
- Utilize the CCRS unpacking tool to identify the skills, concepts, context, and cognitive demand of individual CCR standards with 100% accuracy.
- Create at least two lesson objectives that follow the ABCD model and evaluate the objectives with SMART.
- Explain the three key shifts in the ELA CCRS and how they relate to lesson planning.
- Identify appropriately complex texts based on your students’ needs in your lesson plans with 100% accuracy.
- Identify at least five Tier 2 vocabulary terms and include vocabulary instructional strategies in your lesson plans.
- Create and/or revise at least five text-dependent questions based on CCRS Reading standards and scaffolded based on Depth of Knowledge in your lesson plans.
- Create and/or revise at least one text-dependent culminating assignment or activity based on CCRS Writing or Speaking and Listening standards.
- Identify at least two connected texts, in addition to the main text used in the lesson, to develop a line of inquiry about the topic of the lesson.
- Create one lesson plan that utilizes the explicit instruction model in the body of the lesson.
- Create a lesson plan that includes a plan for at least one formative and one summative assessment to address each of the lesson’s objectives.
- Teach a CCRS-aligned lesson plan with students at your agency.
- Complete an independent reflection on the implementation of your lesson plan.
- Submit a revised CCRS-aligned lesson plan based on individual reflection and course coach feedback.
