Learner Outcomes
After completing this course:
- Students will be able to determine the main idea, sequence, cause and effect and summarize information in a variety of texts.
- Students will be able to analyze and categorize the author’s tone, purpose, perspective, and style in both fiction and nonfiction texts.
- Students will learn to make inferences and draw conclusions from one or more texts.
- Students will be able to identify features of plot, characters, setting, and literary techniques in fiction passages.
- Students will master the content necessary for success on the social studies subtests, including geography and the world, civics and government, United States history and economics.
- Students will be able to evaluate, interpret and apply evidence from a variety of genres as well as visually represented evidence such as graphs, charts, timelines, and maps.
- Students will be able to construct an extended response using the principles established in the rubrics used on the GED and HiSET, including the development of an opinion, the use of textual evidence to identify supporting claims, the ability to properly structure an essay, and the tools necessary to edit the extended response to correct grammatical errors.
