Course Description

A non-credit course for K-12 students in the College’s Jr. STEM Academy. Smart Citizens blends STEM and civic engagement. Using the lens of STEM education, Smart Citizens builds on critical concepts of government systems and the legislative process to study how STEM related fields influence political campaigns and elections. Current legislative topics are explored and investigated via a hands-on STEM curriculum to understand their root causes and impact. An examination of voter rights in America is conducted to understand the effects of the one-person-one-vote philosophy.

Learner Outcomes

  • Explain connections between STEM concepts and environmental justice-related issues and solutions.
  • Construct a basic Electronic Vehicle and explain its various parts and their functions
  • Use basic CAD for design.
  • Design and construct a 3D-printed model product.
